The city of Liverpool had at least 4 greyhound tracks in the past and the one at Beck Park was situated at 2° 56' W 53° 25' N. It ran under NGRC rules, administered by the Liverpool Greyhound Club Ltd, and first opened for racing on 23rd April 1927. The track had a circumference of 467.5 yards and was extremely popular, holding meetings every evening apart from Sunday, and a Saturday afternoon meeting starting at 3.15 pm. Sprint races were run over 300 yards, standard races over 440 and 520 yards, and distance races over 700 yards. The Principal race in 1931 was The National Stakes which was held on 27th March 1931. It was won by Ringmaster, with Tycor Boy second and Dresden third. It operated successfully for 21 years but finally had to close its gates on 26th February 1948 having suffered significantly from damage during World War II. |

Track Records, as of 1947, are shown below together with an indication of how fast the time is in comparison to other tracks, both for currently open and defunct tracks, in the UK. Ratings are between 0 and 100, where 100 is an extremely fast time and reflects the speed of the track, tightness of the circuit and quality of greyhound visiting the tracks. I am extremely grateful to Tony Nash for providing the data. |
